Fried Bread

INGREDIENTS

2 1/2 C. all-purpose flour
5 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 T. sugar
3 T. lard
1 egg, optional
1 C. water

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in a bowl. Add lard and rub between palms to form fine crumbs. If using an egg, combine with water. Add to flour mixture, forming soft dough. Knead about 10 seconds, until smooth. Drop small round balls into hot oil and fry until light brown and crusty.
