Buttermilk Biscuits

INGREDIENTS

2 cups flour; self-rising
1/2 cup shortening
2 tsp baking powder; heaping
1/2 cup buttermilk; milk optional

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine dry ingredients and sift. Cut in shortening. Stir in buttermilk and knead well. On a well floured surface roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a biscuit cutter and place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Brush top lightly with butter before baking. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
