INGREDIENTS

2 pkg dry yeast
3 1/2 cups water
1/4 cup sugar or honey
1 tbsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening
10 cups flour

INSTRUCTIONS

In a large bowl dissolve yeast in the water. Add salt, sugar, shortening and about 3 cups of flour. Mix well using a mixer until the gluten is formed well. Add the remaining flour until the dough is easy to handle.

Place the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead well for 5 minutes. Place dough into a large greased bowl and cover. Let dough rise is a warm location until dough has doubled in size. Punch the dough down and shape into loaves, then place into well greased loaf pans.

Let rise again until doubled in loaf pans. Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until brown on sides and top. Thump to see if it sounds hollow. Rub with a little shortening. Remove and cool on racks.
