INGREDIENTS
2 pkg. dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/3 cup honey
1 tbsp. salt
1/4 cup shortening
1 3/4 cup water
3 cup whole wheat flour
3 to 4 cup all-purpose flour
INSTRUCTIONS
Dissolve dry yeast in 1/2 cup warm water (105 F. - 115 degrees F.) Heat and dissolve on low heat in a saucepan honey, 1 3/4 cups water, salt and shortening. Add both liquids together and add 3 cups of wheat flour. Beat until smooth. Add and stir enough flour to make dough easy to handle. Knead dough for about 10 minutes and let rise in a well greased large bowl for about 1 hour or until dough is about doubled. Punch down and shape into 2 loaves and let rise for an hour again. Place in loaf pans and place into a 375 degree F. preheated oven and bake for 40 - 45 minutes. Cool on racks.
