Bread and Butter Pickles

INGREDIENTS

1 gal. cucumbers
1/2 cup salt
8 medium onions
2 bell peppers
6 cups sugar
2 cups vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. tumeric
1 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed
1/2 tsp. cloves

INSTRUCTIONS

Slice cucumbers, onions and peppers. Mix with salt. Cover with crushed ice and let stand 3 hours, draining excess water off every hour. Remove all ice. Mix vinegar with 2 cups water and boil with the sugar and spices. Add cucumber mixture and let come to a boil. Place in sterilized jars while hot and seal.
