INGREDIENTS
COLA CAKE:
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 cup cola drink
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups small marshmallows
COLA TOPPING:
1/2 cup butter
6 tbsp. coke
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 lb. box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup pecans, chopped
INSTRUCTIONS
CAKE:
This is to be mixed by hand; do not use electric mixer. Sift sugar and flour together in a large bowl. Combine butter, shortening, cocoa and cola and heat until butter is melted. Pour over flour mixture and stir well. Add buttermilk, soda, beaten eggs, vannila and marshmallows. Mix well and spoon into well greased 13x9x2 inch pan. Marshmallows will tend to gather in one section. Distribute throughout pan. Bake at 350 degrees F. about 45 minutes or until cake tests done, spread with cola topping while cake is still hot.
TOPPING:
About 5 minutes before cake is done, combine butter, cola and cocoa and bring to a boil. Stir in other ingredients and pour over hot cake while its still in the pan. Topping will be very thin, but will thicken as it cools on cake. Leave in pan until completely cooled.
