INGREDIENTS

DATE MIXTURE:
1 cup boiling water
1 cup dates, chopped
1 tsp. soda

CAKE MIXTURE:
1 1/2 cups flour; sifted
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup butter
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup nuts, chopped
1 tsp. salt

ICING:
10 tbsp. cream
4 tbsp. butter
10 tbsp. light brown sugar

TOPPING:
coconut; sprinkle
nuts

INSTRUCTIONS

Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 cup of chopped dates and 1 tsp. soda; let stand and fix CAKE MIXTURE. Add cake mixture to date mixture and bake in 9x12 in. pan for 35 minutes in moderate oven at 350 degrees F.

ICING: Combine 10 tbsp. cream, 4 tbsp. butter and 10 tbsp of light brown sugar and boil 3 minutes. Spread icing on cake. Sprinkle with coconut and nuts.
